Writing Level

My friend Gail posted on her blog about how some people complain that her writing is over their head, www.gailrhea.blogspot.com. So she found this link that will test your blog and show your writing level, hers was high school level. I am ashamed to say, being a college graduate, that my blog is written on the junior high level. Anyway, I thought it was interesting so I am posting the link so that you can test your blog too. Let me know what level you write.

P.S. I was informed by my friend Gail (see comments), that it is not writing level, but reading level, so to have a junior high reading level is good, because that means anyone should be able to read it. (I think she's just trying to make me feel better, and it worked!) :)

NO-NO-NO! Do NOT be ashamed! The rating is about READABILITY. You do NOT want a rating of College or Genius because the higher ratings mean that fewer people are able to easily comprehend what you write. The rating of Junior High is an excellent rating to have because your writing reaches those who might not have graduated from high school as well as those who didn't/won't make it to college.

I posted "So, There!" as a way of sticking out my tongue at those who went to college AND said my vocabulary goes over their heads. "Nyah-nyah-nyah" to them! Phffbt!

About your P.S. --"You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free...[S]he who is free is free, indeed."

I've seen some ratings of College and Genius with the bloggers patting themselves on the back totally oblivious to the fact that writing is COMMUNICATION. When a writer sets up to lose the majority of her or his potential audience from the get-go, why bother writing in the first place?

FWIW, after my comment above, I went back and edited my post to include the "Nyah...Phffbt" stuff which dropped my rating down to Junior High. I took it back out because I don't want to slap those people upside their heads any further for being even more ignorant than anyone thought, but I'm tempted!
